Shiv Anand Sharma comes from a family of lawyers spanning four generations. He was called to the England and Wales Bar in 2003 and admitted to practise law in Trinidad and Tobago in 2004.
Mr. Sharma appears as Advocate Attorney-at-Law in the Civil Divisions of the High Court and Court of Appeal as well as the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
He has appeared as leading and Junior Counsel, in numerous noted civil cases out of Trinidad and Tobago and is regularly engaged as counsel in complex litigation. Mr. Sharma is well-known for his attention to detail and is comfortable on matters which require interaction with engineering and other technical experts.
His out of Court practice includes appearing as Counsel in arbitrations, heading disciplinary tribunals, negotiations, provision of legal opinions on various issues and review of complex contracts, commercial proposals (including project finance, oversight and restructuring) and legislation.
Mr. Sharma’s professional memberships include the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago and the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, London. He is a former member of the Council of the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago and continues to serve as a Mentor in the Association’s mentorship programme for young lawyers.
A husband and father of two teenage boys, he is President of the Trinidad and Tobago Karting Association, a non-profit organization which promotes amongst other things the need for safety in motorsport as well as safety on the public roads of Trinidad and Tobago. He provides legal services and advice to several non-profit organizations and charities on a pro-bono basis.
